Family Support
Family Support Services is an OPWDD-certified program that addresses individuals’ specific developmental and behavioral management needs within a family context to increase functional skills and adaptive behaviors in the community. Funding is available for reimbursement for expenses incurred for the care of a loved one.

Every family, at one time or another, finds itself in the midst of a crisis. For those with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their families, these situations can be particularly challenging. Gateway’s Family Support Services program offers compassionate, family-oriented guidance to help your family through this trying time.
ADVANCE
This program offers a time-limited person centered, family oriented, linguistic/culturally assertive approach that provides psycho-social services which are not otherwise available in traditionally designed programs. This program is part of Family Support Services under the supervision of the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).
FAMILY REIMBURSEMENT
This program offers reimbursement for the families of individuals with intellectual disabilities for expenses not covered by other sources, including but not limited to camp, respite, mobility devices, clothing*, etc. This program is part of Family Support Services under the supervision of the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).

ADVANCE services are available Monday through Friday 9 AM to 6 PM

Must reside in the Bronx at home with family

What Parents and Family Members Receive
According to all OPWDD requirements, family support services is a unique program that includes:

Support for transitioning between life stages or services.
Parent Training
Education and skill-building for caregivers.
Sibling Support
Programs addressing the needs of siblings of individuals with disabilities.
Therapeutic Interventions
Access to specialized therapies or interventions.
Legal and Financial Guidance
Assistance in legal or financial matters related to care.
Assistive Technology
Provision of tools or technology aiding independence.
Advocacy Training
Empowering families to advocate for their loved ones effectively.
